Bringing Birmingham to You: How Much is a Year of Life Worth?

3 March 2026 at 18:15

What does it really cost to keep us healthy? And who decides?

We’re delighted to invite you to our next event in the Bringing Birmingham to You series. Join us for a thought-provoking conversation exploring the moral dilemmas at the heart of the NHS and global healthcare systems.

We'll be joined by Professor Amy Grove, who will lift the lid on the hidden complexities behind cost-effectiveness decisions in the NHS. From genetic therapies to common surgeries, Amy will offer a behind-the-scenes look at how medical decisions ripple out into the wider economy.

Then, Professor Justine Davies will bring a global lens to the discussion, drawing on her experience working with the World Health Organization and other governments in low-resourced settings to explore questions of fairness and accessibility in healthcare around the world.

Expect a lively and insightful session that tackles the tough questions: Who gets what treatment, and why? How do we balance cost with care? And what can we learn from international approaches?
